From December to May, Mactan Island offers peak diving with clear waters and steady weather. In the rainy season, quieter sites and rich marine life shine
Diving in Mactan Island isn’t about chasing a single perfect month.
It’s about choosing the season that matches how you want to feel underwater.
At Leopoldo Diving Shop, we dive these waters year-round. We see how the ocean changes, how divers respond to those changes, and how the right timing can turn a good dive into a deeply memorable one. Whether you’re taking your first breath underwater or returning to refine your skills, Mactan Island offers reliable, rewarding diving in every season, just in different ways.
One of the reasons our divers love Mactan Island is its consistency. Conditions remain favorable for most of the year, allowing us to tailor each dive to your experience level, comfort, and goals. The main difference lies between the dry season and the wet season, each offering its own rhythm and advantages.
Understanding these seasons helps you dive with confidence and intention.

From December to May, Mactan Island enters its dry season, and this is when diving feels effortlessly smooth. Sea conditions are calm, rainfall is minimal, and the weather stays consistent - ideal for relaxed planning and stress-free dive days.
Underwater, visibility often ranges from 15 to 30 meters. The water stays comfortably warm, between 26 and 29°C, making long, unhurried dives a pleasure. Imagine descending slowly, the reef coming into view without haze, your breathing steady as the ocean feels predictable and welcoming.
This is the season we most often recommend for:
Beginner divers taking their first dives
Open Water and Advanced certification courses
Leisure and resort-based diving
First-time visitors to the Philippines
At Leopoldo, our instructors love this period for training because conditions allow students to focus fully on skills buoyancy, breathing, and awareness without unnecessary distractions. Confidence builds quietly, dive after dive.
March to May stands out even within the dry season. These months consistently offer the clearest water, which our photographers and relaxed reef explorers appreciate the most.
Our instructors often suggest booking certification courses early in the dry season, as this period fills up quickly with first-time divers.

From June to October, Mactan Island enters the wet season. While there is occasional rain, diving remains safe and enjoyable for most of this period. The ocean doesn’t shut down, it simply shifts its mood.
What many of our divers love about this season is the quiet. Fewer visitors mean less crowded boats, calmer dive briefings, and a more personal pace. Schedules are more flexible, making it easier to adjust plans around weather windows and personal preferences.
The water during this time becomes nutrient-rich, supporting vibrant marine life activity. Many divers tell us they enjoy the feeling of having the dive site almost to themselves; more space, more stillness, and more time to observe.
At Leopoldo, we adjust dive site selection daily during the wet season. Our local knowledge allows us to choose locations that prioritize comfort and safety while still delivering beautiful, engaging dives.
If you value flexibility and a more intimate diving atmosphere, ask us about wet-season availability, we often have more room to customize your experience.

There’s no “wrong” time to dive in Mactan Island, only the right time for you.
If you want predictability, calm water, and crystal-clear visibility, the dry season is your best match. If you prefer fewer crowds, a slower pace, and flexible planning, the wet season offers a different kind of value.
Over the years, our dive logs and guest feedback have shown us one clear pattern: divers enjoy their experience most when the season aligns with their expectations. That’s why we always start by asking about your comfort level and what you want to get out of the dive.
Mactan Island rewards divers in every season. The key isn’t chasing perfect conditions, it’s diving with a team that understands how to work with what the ocean offers.
At Leopoldo Diving Shop, we plan each dive with intention, adapting to seasonal changes while keeping your experience safe, relaxed, and memorable. Whether you’re visiting during peak dry season or enjoying the calm of the wet months, the ocean is ready when you are.
If you’re thinking about diving in Mactan Island, the best next step is simple: reach out, tell us when you’re coming, and let us help you choose the season and the dive that fits you best.
